 Webelos Camp-out

Camp Lazarus

September 21-23, 2007.

On this camp-out, we were trying to teach Webelos Scouts some skills, and show off the troop to prospective members. With several other troops, we camped at Camp Lazarus, and many cub scouts and their parents visited us on the Saturday. Some of the Cub Scouts even camped on Saturday night. The field was covered in tents!

An important part of camping is cooking, and an important part of cooking is cleaning up afterwards! Nick N. is cleaning the Firestorm patrol's griddle after breakfast on Saturday morning. The Firestorm breakfast was a 'Double Nick' effort: Nick H. cooked and Nick N. cleaned up!

We dug a fire pit, and explained to some Webelos about fire safety when camping. Nick H., Jude and A.J. are explaining fire safety.

Of course, it was a pretty busy time for the adult leaders.

Our troop was responsible for teaching Webelos lashings and first aid. The first aid was done in the morning, and we focused on dressing wounds. We had some pretty realistic fake blood to help make the wounds look real.

In the afternoon, we taught lashings. Each group of webelos had to make a structure that strong enough to carry a scout in a race around the nearest tree and back. Here Andy Nick N. and Adrian help carry the structures in a race. Joe, A.J. and Nick H. adjudicate in the races.

With 8 groups of Webelos going around 8 different stations, it was necessary that everyone change stations at the same time. To make this happen, our Troop Bugler, Jonathon, got to sit in the middle of the field and blow a bugle call for every change.

Meanwhile, the races continued.

That night (Saturday), the troops held a campfire for everyone.

The campfire began with Native American dancers (actually, just dressed up that way) performing some wonderful traditional dances.

Our troop performed a skit called "The Movie" for the campfire.

Jarrod says "We had a good time!"

It was a great camp-out.

Sunday morning, we packed up and went home.
