Scribe's Notes
17 December, 2007.
Christmas Party and Winter Court of Honor.
This was the last troop meeting of 2007. We met at 6:30 p.m. for a Christmas Party, with lasagna, mac and cheese, salads, dessert, cookies, hot chocolate, tea and coffee. Mrs. Brenot organized all the food, and everyone had plenty (and loved it!), with very little left over.
When the formal Court of Honor began, Joe was the MC, and all the active scouts in the troop were present. The first activity was voting for membership of Order of the Arrow. The troop members voted on four candidates. Results will be released some time in the spring.
Mr. Morris then gave the annual Friends of Scouting talk, asking for donations to help Boy Scouting keep its high standards.
Mr. Morris welcomed everyone to the Court of Honor. Nick H. gave the SPL Minute, and spoke of the need to look to the future and plan for the success of the troop in the coming year. He challenged the scouts to take charge of their future, and that of the troop.
Moving on to the awards, six scouts advanced in rank (Tenderfoot, First Class, Star X 3, and Life), and six merit badges were awarded, two of them Eagle-required. Josh also earned his Scuba BSA award.
Josh had been presented with his Eagle Scout award the previous day at his Eagle Court of Honor, but tonight it was formally announced that he will be a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster with the troop. He also was presented with his engraved name plate to place on the list of the troop's Eagle Scouts, on the back wall of the troop's meeting area. Josh is the latest in a line of Eagle Scouts stretching back almost 30 years.
Our Scoutmaster, Mr. Krajnak, then gave his Scoutmaster Minute, where he stressed the need for the troop to be a family that communicated with each other, and respected each other.
The ceremony was closed by Nick H., and after some additional dessert and socializing, there was a White Elephant Gift Exchange. Several of the gifts aroused great hilarity, and several were still creating considerable enjoyment weeks later.
After cleaning up and some more socializing, we bid each other best wishes for a Merry Christmas, and headed home to face the last week of school before the Winter Break and Christmas.
